I. Daytime Running Lights – What are daytime running lights on cars for?
- Daytime running lights (DRL) are LED lights mounted in front of the front of the car, usually installed in a pair. It can be located in the cluster of illuminated headlights or above the fog lights, the purpose is to help pedestrians, vehicles in the opposite direction and road users easily detect the car from a distance, thereby making it safer.
- The task of the daytime running light is not to help the driver see the way, but to let other vehicles see this car.
- The default DRL will automatically light up every time the engine starts, so if you see a car with daytime running lights, it means that it is ready to run, not parked or parked.
- Compared to phase, core, fog lights or diversion indicators, daytime running lights are the best because they are built specifically for daytime safety, minimizing fuel consumption, reducing glare for motorcyclists and other applications.
- However, the luminous intensity of this DRL lamp as a rule must be less than the front illuminator.
II. Some basic requirements for DRL lamps:
- DRL lights are mounted in front of the car, not required to be fixed, the manufacturer can integrate it with the lighting cluster or design in its own position, depending on aesthetics.
- The maximum power consumption is about 25-30% of that of standard lighting.
- The DRL light must turn on itself when the motorcycle explodes and turn off when the motorcycle is off.
- If the car has DRL mounted near the turn signal, when turning on the turn signal, the DRL must turn off itself so as not to confuse the signal. Some vehicles have DRL lights flashing off at the same time as the turn signal (e.g. Audi) to make other cars more visible.
- Since the DRL is a daytime running light, when it is dark it can cause blurring and blinding, so when the lights are turned on, the DRL must turn off on its own, unless the DRL of that vehicle has a mode that automatically reduces the brightness so as not to cause glare of the opposite car.
III. Benefits of DRL lamps:
- Seeing the DRL light on means that the car is starting and ready to run, not that it is shutting down.
- DRL helps to increase visual brightness, 2 cars running in opposite directions both have DRL to make it easier for drivers to detect each other from afar.
- DRL is said to help reduce the obscurity of turn signals (because some DRL lights have the function of flashing off at the same time as the turn signal).
- In the event that there are many vehicles in the opposite direction, vehicles with DRL will be easier to detect from afar.
